If you haven’t yet done so, go and sample the new informal-style worship of Soul Café. The atmosphere is relaxed; there are plenty of refreshments, as well as craft activities for the children. You can join in with old friends or meet new people. The puppets are a star attraction, and there’s always a lesson to be drawn from their antics, as well as food for thought by way of bible stories and modern worship songs. Why not give it a try? You will be made very welcome and it may be just what you’re looking for. Click the logo above for more information |

How proud are you of your faith? What a question... many of us, myself included tend to have a “stiff upper lip approach” towards the active promotion of Christianity. In fact, you could be forgiven for thinking that this is the general attitude demonstrated by Christians today across Britain. Working in a Birmingham school where the majority of pupils are Muslim is a real eye- opener. The children respect the fact that I am a Christian and we have many discussions about the similarities of our faiths. This is usually sparked by my telling a Bible story in assembly, only to find that the pupils recognise it as a story from the Qur’an. My Assembly Sub-Committee of ten and eleven year olds meets regularly and they devise prayers in a wide range of community languages so that everyone in the school has the chance to join in prayers which they understand and relate to. (Most of our pupils hail from Birmingham, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sweden, Somalia, France, Holland and the Yemen) The Committee are happy to stand up to be counted in terms of their faith. I wonder how many of us would be so forthcoming if the roles were reversed. Parents are happy to talk to me about their beliefs and share similar hopes and dreams for their families to me and mine. It is through the celebration of similarities rather than difference that we will be able to develop tolerance, interdependence and community cohesion. We often have discussions about the overall lack of faith in this country and they are genuinely mystified as to how so many people profess to have no faith at all. They often comment that they are pleased that I do have a faith because they associate this with moral and spiritual well- being and care for others. As we begin another new year, I have resolved to talk more openly about faith, learning from children who are openly proud to celebrate their beliefs. Perhaps there is a lesson here for us all... xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Hey - got a few old shares where encashment charges would be more than the value of the shares?? You say: “I feel all alone” God says: “I will never leave you or forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5) You say: “I’m always worried and frustrated” God says: “Cast all your cares on ME” (1 Peter 5:7) You say: “I can’t forgive myself” God says: “I forgive you” (1 John 1:9)
